Options for making payments to Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) for Alberta corporate and commodity taxes and levies.

Electronic submissions

Electronic submissions to TRA are encouraged (Netfile, TRACS, secure email or electronic payment) for registrations, applications, returns, claims, objections and waivers. TRA accepts electronic signatures for all prescribed forms administered by TRA. To add a digital signature, the form must first be downloaded or opened as a PDF. Overview

Businesses and individuals who are required to pay Alberta taxes, levies or fees for the following programs may do so by using one of the options on this page. For more information on these programs, see the pages in this section.

Filing and payment due dates

There are dates specified by Legislation and/or Regulations where taxes and levies are required to be filed and paid. When a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, Alberta holiday, or federally recognized banking holiday your payment is considered on time if TRA receives it on or before the next business day.

Electronic payment through your financial institution

Electronic payment is a fast, easy, convenient and secure way to pay your corporate or commodity taxes. For more information, see the links below, or contact your bank or TelPay for Business.

Financial institutions offering electronic payment – and how to pay

The government tax payment and filing service has been established at most financial institutions.

How to pay:

Step 1: Go to Pay Your Taxes Online

Step 2: Click on your financial institution and follow the instructions provided.

Step 3: Select "Alberta Finance" and the program that you are making a payment for, for example, "Alberta Finance – Corporate Income Tax" located under "Provincial – Alberta".

Credit card (all tax and levy programs)

To pay by credit card use PaySimply, a third party service provider. The third party service provider will send your payment and remittance details to TRA. Third party service providers charge a fee for their service.

The effective date of receipt of your payment is the date TRA's account is credited. This is approximately 3 business days after a payment is made. Refer to the third party service provider terms and conditions.

You are responsible for making sure TRA receives your payment by the due date. TRA may charge you penalties or interest or both if your payment is late.

IFTA renewal fees

International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) renewal fees can be paid online using a credit card, with no transaction costs, through the Tax and Revenue Administration Client Self-service (TRACS) system or through PaySimply.

Interac e-transfer

To pay by Interac e-transfer use PaySimply, a third party service provider. The third party service provider will send your payment and remittance details to TRA. Third party service providers charge a fee for their service.

The effective date of receipt of your payment is the date TRA's account is credited, approximately 1 business day after a payment is made. Refer to the third party service provider terms and conditions.

Cash or debit

Pay with cash or debit at any Canada Post location using PaySimply, a third-party service provider. The third party service provider will send your payment and remittance details to TRA. Third party service providers charge a fee for their service.

PayPal

Pay with PayPal using PaySimply, a third-party service provider. The third party service provider will send your payment and remittance details to TRA. Third party service providers charge a fee for their service.

Cheque or money order

Cheques and money orders can be sent by mail or courier to TRA between 8:15 am and 4:30 pm MST, Monday through Friday, except statutory holidays.

TRA does not accept cash payments of taxes, levies and fees. Do not send cash in the mail.

All cheques or money orders should be made payable to the Government of Alberta.

On the back of the cheque or money order, note your Alberta Corporate Account Number and/or Business Identification Number (BIN) (for example, 123456789), program name, and the reporting period or tax year end of your payment.

Post-dated cheques are acceptable.

TRA considers the date we receive a payment to be the date used for interest calculation purposes, not the mailing date.

Wire transfer

Only non-residents who do not have a Canadian bank account can pay using wire transfer. Contact TRA for more information.

In person at your financial institution

Please note: not all financial institutions accept remittance advice forms in person. Contact your bank directly for acceptable payment methods.

Present the required original TRA remittance advice and your payment to the teller.

Remittance advices must be original and copies are not accepted. You may request an original remittance advice through TRACS.

Remittance advices

We automatically send you the appropriate remittance advice based on your account status and needs with your Statement of Account.

If you need more remittance advices, call TRA at 780-427-3044 and select option 3. For toll-free service in Alberta, call 310-0000 and then the number.

Remittance advices must be original and copies are not accepted. You may request an original remittance advice through TRACS.

Minimal amounts

You do not have to pay a balance where the total of tax, penalties and interest are less than $20 that you may owe after your return is processed.

Payments made in error to Canada Revenue Agency

There is no process for transferring payments of Alberta corporate taxes made to Canada Revenue Agency in error.
