International Registration Plan / Prorate (IRP)

IRP Overview

The IRP is an agreement among U.S. states and Canadian provinces to base licence fees on the total distance carriers operated in all jurisdictions.

Under this agreement, only one licence plate and cab card is required for each fleet vehicle, even though the vehicle is registered in several jurisdictions. For more information, visit the IRP, Inc. website. External link

Alberta Transportation publishes the Prorate Information Guide for interjurisdictional carriers based in Alberta that use the IRP.
